Library Community,

The Colorado Library Consortium (CLiC) has contracted with a replacement courier for Sprint Express.  Our new courier provider is American Courier.  American serves six states in the region and has an office in Denver.

Courier service will begin in a limited fashion to some of the 450 participating libraries on Monday, October 10th.   By the end of the week, we anticipate a full return of service to all 450 libraries.  American Courier has a reputation for both honesty and reliability that should meet, if not exceed our previous provider.  We ask for your patience as American Courier sets up its distribution system and establishes processes.

All libraries previously on the courier will be served on currently assigned days.  However, delivery times will be changing.  As soon as we know what those times are, we will inform each library.

For the immediate future, we will use the same totes, courier codes, and blue courier slips.  Procedures will remain the same for the start up period.

We do not anticipate any price changes.  You will receive the same service for the same price.  The Colorado State Library has provided some LSTA funding to cover any costs associated with higher gas prices for this year only.  Although CLiC collects a single annual payment from most libraries, we pay the courier on a monthly basis.  Therefore, nearly all of the funds libraries paid to CLiC are safe, and will be applied to the new courier contract.  We are exploring our legal position with Sprint Express.

We have retrieved the materials that were in the Grand Junction, Denver and Colorado Springs Sprint Express storage facilities.  Those materials will start being delivered on October 10th.

While the courier is restarting with the same framework as before, we must tailor our processes and workflow to improve efficiencies for our new vendor.  This year the Courier Subcommittee will be looking at the overall structure, pricing and functioning of the courier service.

As we have more information, we will post it to our web site at www.clicweb.org.  Your support for the courier is essential for the continued success of resource sharing in Colorado.

Thank you,
Valerie Horton
