Announcements from George

Duplicate records

Lois is looking into further work on detecting dup records, perhaps with more lists generated by III.

Prospector AVS

AVS will be ordered soon and billed in July 03 to member libraries.  Reindexing will probably be done around the end of 02 and will need to be coordinated with new library loads.

New member libraries

George, Joan, Bill, and Helen have met with Ft. Collins PL for general discussion; will meet with their Tech Services on loading issues in early Nov.  The Library is making progress in working with the city IT dept., which handles their internet access, on technology/computer issues

Arapahoe Regional is interested in joining Prospector.  For Plus they have leased their local InnReach software and would need to buy it for Prospector.  The Alliance will help them in their request to get the software for less than $24,000.

Mesa State College, Grand Junction, is very interested in joining Prospector and hopes to have enough money by summer 03.   Their data is imbedded in Marmot; may be some issues here.

NetLibrary

NetLibrary contract is finished, but OCLC says if we run it through BCR it will cost a bit less.  There will be no changes in the contract; it will be our own, not the regular BCR-NetL contract.  Should be finalized the end of Oct. and George will notify committee members when records are available from the Alliance server.

Endeavor load into Prospector

The updated code has arrived from Endeavor.  The Alliance will use it to load some Mines and Wyoming records week of Oct. 14 and will proceed with testing.

GoldRush

Will be ready to market in Jan.03.  There is a lot of interest among academic libraries.  About 50 libraries presently have passwords so they can examine the system.  Cost will be $4000/year/library.

OCLC is possibly interested in purchasing GoldRush.  They have been out to look closely at it and will know by the end of Oct. if they are interested.  If the Alliance chooses to sell, the price will be high and the Alliance will retain the right to run the system for its members and to further develop the code for the local system.

Minutes

Accepted with amendment to spelling of Paul Staincliffe’s name and to description of the bib and authority record exchange among LC, OCLC, BNL, and RLIN.

Review of checklist for Prospector participants

The Committee reviewed the entire packet.  George will make extensive revisions and then redistribute the packet to members for a final review.

Next meeting is Nov. 21 at the Alliance.
