Minutes of the April 17, 2003 meeting were approved.
Due to structure of the Marmot database and the way Mesa State’s data is embedded, Mesa State will not be able to participate in Prospector as quickly as hoped. When Phase 3 is released, there will be an option for Agency codes which will allow Mesa State to code their records for participation in Prospector, which should occur somewhere around August. Both Prospector and Mesa State will need to be in Phase 3 before the loading can take place.
Any current or past NetLibrary customer may obtain records for all the public domain titles in the database. There are about 3500 records. CSU will load the records if they haven’t already, and will code them ‘g’ in Bcode3 as a system resource.
If financing becomes available, CMC will probably pursue participation in Prospector. This is not likely to happen in the immediate future, however.
Since February, 8 subscriptions (3 complete, 5 reports only) to Gold Rush have been sold. Upgrades are in the works. Years of coverage will be added to the link resolver. Adding local title lists for use in collection development and in creating collection comparison reports is also in the works. This will create “one stop shopping” for patrons. As more local title lists are loaded, the hope is to create uniqueness reports by comparing institutional holdings. One of the issues being worked on is what to do if no ISSN is included in the record. Right now, records without ISSNs are not loaded. Other enhancements related to article-level linking are in the works.
Endeavor and Alliance staff are still working on authentication and record loading issues. Endeavor wants us to have a test server installed because their new code is in the Unicode release that is currently still only in development. More meetings are scheduled to discuss the issue.
The Alliance will place the order for AVS during the first week of June. Delivery will most likely be in July and we can hope to be implementing by the end of the summer.
Regis has chosen III as their new ILS. They looked at two systems whose pricing was roughly the same. The ability to stay in Prospector with uninterrupted service was one of the deciding factors in choosing Innovative. They hope to be migrated and online by the end of the year.
The CARL Tandem machine is moving to DPL over Memorial Day weekend. Backup support will be provided by TLC from that point forward. During the move, access to DPL and Regis will be turned off in Prospector for the 3-5 days it takes to complete the transfer. There will be no lending or borrowing of materials from DPL or Regis during that time period. Regis and DPL patrons can still use Prospector to look up titles for call numbers, etc. but no circulation functions will be available. George will add a note to the Prospector home page to alert users to the down time for both locations.
IUG Enhancements
Lois reviewed the enhancement vote results. Some enhancements were referred to other sections, such as Circulation or general Web OPAC. A couple were voted down entirely, including the record matching/ISBN report and the development of alternative coding for 856 display purposes. Mapping of local material types and some screen message customization will be available in Phase 3. The enhancements that were left were given a priority of “2”.
Printouts from C/W MARS Libraries (a scoped InnReach system) were distributed. Rewording of the “Click on the following to:” statement were discussed. Wendy had a suggested phrase of “Online access may vary by institution. Click “Display holdings” below for additional links.” Alternatively, it could read “Online access may be restricted by library. Click “Display holdings” below for additional links.” Also, George will try to reword the “Display holdings” link to say “Display holdings of [number] Prospector Libraries.” George will make the changes and send out a message to the listserv for review.
A taskforce will be formed to work on the rest of the redesign issues. Names for participants will be gathered and once Phase 3 and AVS have both been loaded, then the work can begin on redesigning the web page.
The call number truncation (or sometimes deletion) in the InnReach displays is a known issue at III. It is supposed to be fixed in Phase 3.
CSU will be loading the public domain University of California Press eScholarship titles. There will be an article describing the set in Data Link and on the listserv. These titles will be loaded with Bcode3 “g” for system resources. There are 300+ titles in the set. Some overlap with NetLibrary records.
The group clarified the use of the volume field for non-standard information and its impact on holds and load balancing. The use of the issue field was discussed as an alternative, which can be activated by calling III Help Desk.
Next meeting:
July 17, 12:30-3:30, Alliance offices first floor conference room.
