The committee met from 12:30 to 3:15.
New committee members Barbara Allen (DU Law), Wendy Baia (CU Boulder), and Kim Crowley (Fort Collins Public) were introduced.
Minutes of the 11/21/02 meeting were approved.
Endeavor testing and
loads
George and Alan Charnes reported on the situation. At random intervals a load of bib and item records will get hung up and a record will be resent interminably, which stops the load. A similar problem existed with CARL loads. Endeavor says the III system is not sending an acknowledgement; III says this is an Endeavor problem. Programmers from the two companies are discussing. However, basically, Endeavor is simply not making sufficient effort to write the code. If immediate progress is not noticeable, the Alliance will stop cajoling and pursue legal redress from Elsevier, which has owned Endeavor since Jan. 2.
Fort Collins Public
Library load
This was halted part way through because the Alliance was committed to load Mines and Wyoming before anyone else, even though the software does not yet exist to load the latter two. Mines and Wyoming have now agreed to let the FCPL load proceed since it does not, in fact, retard their loading, as long as the Alliance proceeds with vigor to secure the necessary code from Endeavor.
January Inn-Reach hardware failure
The battery went bad in the RAID array. The Alliance is on a 12-month scheduled battery replacement by III, which is well within the expected 18-month expected life span of the battery, but III forgot to replace last summer.
Release 2002, Phase 2
release
The request confirmation screen has a bug (does not show the institution). This will be patched at the end of Jan. We shall then load this release in February 2003
Circ stats
George distributed the 2002 Inn-Reach borrow/lending stats. In total, they are up 30% over 2001.
Currently working on 3 points: browsing will be limited to full text
full text display will no longer be interfiled with index-only; they will be split on the screen
for the resolver, the DOI on the fly will be ready to provide the article level link
Licensing will be ready for sale, both in- and outside the state, on Jan. 31. This will be version 2 of GoldRush
The next step will be the loading of local data sets; this is to avoid the need for title lists from aggregators.
2nd quarter records will be available in Feb. When loading into local catalogues, do not attach item records and load with bib suppress – (hyphen). Alliance members will not have access to the 9/11 purchase made by CSU. George will look into loading bib records for the part of the DPL collection that is available to all the NetLibrary group participants.
INN-Reach AVS
implementation
Software not ordered yet. At ALA George will discuss with III whether AVS is about to change its default options. Before implementing, we’ll need to design screens and decide whether to reindex. At the Feb. meeting the committee will examine our indexing document, view screen design samples, and review the AVS FAQs on CSDirect.
INN-Reach 856
contribution and display
III’s Oct. 14, 02 documentation on InnReach 856 display was distributed.
Prospector dup
records
Tim Auger reports there was a glitch in Inn-Reach release 2001 that prevented proper overlay. He has recently rerun and deduped the database for records with the same string in the 001. He estimates a 50% reduction of dups. Tim says he has no figure for the original total of dups, but he thinks there are about 10,000 dups now (therefore 20,000 to start with?). III will continue cleanup as much as possible, then we shall ask for a list of dups and see what we can clean up. This action would replace our request to Sandy Westfall in August 2001 for a list of dups, but never received.
Election of chair and
recorder for 2003
Lois Jones was re-elected chair; Cindy Wilson was elected secretary. Meeting dates were determined through May.
