George Machovec Appointed as Executive Director of the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries

The Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries (the Alliance) is pleased to announce the appointment of George Machovec as its new Executive Director.

"The Alliance is delighted to have George, a seasoned consortial administrator, as our next Executive Director. We look forward to his leadership with pride and great anticipation," said James Williams II, Dean of Libraries at University of Colorado Boulder and Board Chair of the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries.

Machovec has been the Associate Director of the Alliance since 1993. Following the retirement of previous Executive Director Alan Charnes in July 2011, Machovec served as Interim Executive Director. He is an active member of the International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC).

Before working at the Alliance, Machovec was a reference librarian, head of the Solar Energy Collection, and later head of library technology and systems at Arizona State University (ASU) Libraries. He is the managing editor for The Charleston Advisor (http://charlestonco.com), a peer-reviewed journal which provides in-depth reviews of products and services for libraries.   He has published many articles and book chapters relating to technology and digital libraries. He has an MLS from the University of Arizona and an undergraduate double major in physics and astronomy.

Machovec said of his appointment, "I have been involved with virtually all aspects of our consortium for many years, and I am thrilled to be appointed as its executive director to continue our efforts in collaboration, development of services, and cost reduction for our members."
