Shared Purchase Plan Pilot
Shared
Purchase Plan Pilot
Michael reported on the evaluation of
the pilot. The SPP had four major goals:
1.
controlling duplication of monographs across the
participating libraries
2.
purchasing more titles overall
3.
for some libraries, freeing up selector time
4.
for some libraries, freeing up money
It appears that the plan actually led
to increased duplication for the pilot areas. This may be because the upper limits
imposed for each subject were arbitrarily chosen and too high. It is unclear
whether we ended up purchasing more titles. In some cases we were successful in
meeting the final two goals. Working with two vendors was very difficult.
There were several areas in which the
pilot was a success:
1.
encouraging a culture of experimentation and
cooperation
2.
gathering the selectors together into groups
3.
allowing for some libraries to pilot shelf-ready
receipt of books
4.
developing a better working relationship with the
vendors
Michael also presented a proposal for
approval plan coordination (see appendix 1 for the modified version of this
plan based on discussion at this meeting). Michael agreed to present this plan
to Member Council on March 20.
Spectra
Dimension
The committee agreed to discontinue a
consortial subscription to Spectra Dimension. Rose and Terry will ask Library
Dynamics for pricing for DU and CU.
Elsevier
Update
Terry and Alan will meet with
Elsevier in the next week and will ask for a 0% increase in pricing in line
with the ICOLC statement.
We are still waiting for the Elsevier
statistics problem to be resolved.
RFI
for E-Books
Terry sent the RFI to Ebrary, EBL,
and MyILibrary.
Consortial
Purchasing - Terry
FMG:
We received a proposal for purchase of the entire inventory for 9 libraries.
This pricing works out to about 30x the annual subscription rate. The group
agreed that this is not feasible. Not all libraries are interested in this
package. Some might be interested in a subscription model. Terry will ask for
several different pricing models:
·
purchase costs for subject collections
·
pricing for a guaranteed number of titles per
year
·
group pricing that allows each library to pick its own titles without having to
share
Simply
Maps: A few libraries have trials. We'll have pricing soon.
EBSCO
Public Affairs/Political Science Complete: A few libraries have trials.
Pricing soon.
Oxford Journal Archive: We have pricing. Let
Terry know if you're interested.
Oxford Digital Reference Shelf: Need to know by end of next week how many
titles across the Alliance.
Any combination of thirty titles will give us a further 10% discount.
HRAF:
Please let Terry know if you would like to join this deal.
AnthroSource:
This has been taken over by Wiley Blackwell and will be added to the Wiley
contract. Since several libraries already get this, Terry will ask about
prorated pricing.
Blackwell
Journals: Blackwell has not yet started the 2009 renewal process.
Cambridge Journals: We are still waiting for the
invoice for 2009.
Sage
Journals: Still waiting for invoices, credits, response about 48 new
titles.
Springer:
Terry just sent out the list of book series included. She will send the
participating libraries copies of the contract. We have ILL rights, but has to
be done chapter-by-chapter. The Prospector Committee is discussing how to send
Springer ebooks via Prospector; Rose will share the committee minutes with the
SCDC. Springer is piloting "my copy" POD (a $24.95 copy of the book for any
patron of a library that owns the
ebook) and will send us information soon.
Alliance - Alan
On Feb 20, there was a meeting of the
